Who am I?

My name is Ian Battaglia, and I am the creator and curator of this website. It was built as a location to showcase my work, across disciplines, but especially as a way to self-publish my short stories.

What do you do?

While I get paid to write and shoot photos every once and a while, it isn't how I pay my bills. Most of the time, I do freelance work in cinema in the electric department. That's a fancy way of saying I work in lighting on short films, commercials, features, and television.

Where are you based?

I currently live in Chicago IL. However, I am a frequent traveler, and have been to Europe, Asia, and across North America.

Do you have any writing in print?

Not currently, no. I am working on my first novel, I/O, which I hope to have completed by the end of the year.

Do you have an editor, or an agent?

No, but I would love to! If you are either of these things, and want to work with me, please contact me here. Let's do great work together.

What are your favorite books?

Two of my all-time favorites are The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway and Moby Dick by Herman Melville. I also love Haruki Marukami, and Raymond Carver.

What do you listen to while writing?

I love instrumental music, especially video game soundtracks. Some staples include anything by Disasterpeace, especially the Fez and Hyper Light Drifter soundtracks, as well as Lifeformed, Aphex Twin.
